What is Earthquake Warning California?

Earthquake Warning California is a public information and education campaign that focuses on promoting earthquake preparedness and the Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) system in California. The California EEW system uses the latest technology, including smartphone applications and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), to provide individuals with an earthquake warning as soon as shaking is detected by ground motion sensors strategically located throughout California. Earthquake early warnings are designed to give individuals crucial seconds to take life-saving actions such as to Drop, Cover, and Hold On before shaking occurs.
